Ten Things I've Learned in Ten Years

Clearly, I was much younger
when this Seekerville gig started.
Ten years. I'm in shock.

Happy Birthday, Seekerville. Ten years has been an honor and I thank God for each and every one of you that I have met along the way.

It's been a growing process, and I've learned quite a bit in the last decade. In fact, every day I'm learning something new.

Just this week I learned that I am a VIP  at Dunkin' Donuts. True! I get a VIP discount too. After pestering a young employee named Josh, I discovered  that VIP is code for "there's an old lady at the drive-through window." I'll take the discount anyhow. I've earned it.

The top ten things I have learned since 2007 can be summed up with ten of my favorite quotes.

Remember that this is my list of ten. Not to be confused with your list. You've heard them before, as I've quoted most of them over and over again during the last ten years.

As usual, you can take it or leave it, after all, it is free.

1. "You can't edit a blank page." -Nora Roberts

2.  “If you don't have time to read, you don't have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that.” - Stephen King

3.  "You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think." -Christopher Robin, Winnie the Pooh.

4. "Opportunity dances with those already on the dance floor." -H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

5. "Focus on your key result areas." -Brian Tracy

6. "A good test of a relationship is how a person responds to the word 'no.' Love respects 'no,' control does not." John Townsend and Henry Cloud "Boundaries"

7. "What have you done today to make your dream come true?" - Author Karen King

8.  'If the ladder is not leaning against the right wall, every step we take just gets us to the wrong place faster.'' Stephen Covey

9. "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."- (Attributed to Albert Einstein, but probably author unknown.)

10“The reason we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind-the-scenes with everyone else’s highlight reel.” -Steven Furtick

And a bonus one by moi!  "Writing is a ministry. It doesn't belong to you."-Tina Radcliffe

That's it. Ten things. I've always been the minimalist around this place. And yes, it did take me ten years to figure out what much of Bartlett's Familiar Quotations could have taught me in one year. I'm a slow learner. My prayer is that you catch on much more quickly.

What about you? What have you learned in the last ten years of being a reader and/or a writer? Do any of these list items apply?
